It’s nearing that time of year once again: award season nominations. Variety has confirmed Ryan Gosling’s nomination submission for Best Supporting Actor in Barbie, and he is more than Kenough for it. His role was the Ken that followed Margot Robbie’s Barbie to the real world, discovering the patriarchy along the way. Ken brings it back to Barbieland without really understanding what it meant beyond finally feeling respected, causing a drama peak in the film. After this is resolved, Barbie and Ken make up and talk. The character moves towards learning how to live for himself, creating a special character arc of self-acceptance masterfully portrayed by Gosling.

Barbie took the box office by storm; at the time of writing this, the film has grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide. It will campaign for other Academy Awards category nominations as well, including Best Original Screenplay; the outcomes won’t be known for a while yet, however. The film is currently available to rent or buy digitally through Vudu, Amazon, Microsoft, and RedBox.  You can also get a physical copy through major retailers!
