'Ahsoka' Episode 8 Review

Grand Admiral Thrawn

The Ahsoka finale is finally here, and what a ride it has been. While the finale was great, some stories felt unfinished, and questions were unanswered. Without knowing for sure if a second season is coming, it would’ve been nice to know the final fate of these characters. The finale is slower than what we’re used to, but once it gets going, it's full speed ahead. While Ezra, Sabine, and Ahsoka, are in a rush to stop Thrawn, they make sure to take their time and plan their next moves. Ezra, with the help of Huyang, builds a new lightsaber, this time with a blue kyber crystal. The two reminisce on his master, which gives us multiple Kanan Jarrus mentions. The three of them make their way to the fortress, to try and stop Thrawn once and for all.

We are treated to many different lightsaber fights, with the three of them at one point all using their lightsabers, which makes for peak Star Wars, and one of the strongest points in the finale. Ahsoka and Morgan Elsbeth have a rematch, but this time, Morgan has a flaming magick sword. Even though Ahsoka loses a lightsaber, she still comes out on top and proves that she will win, no matter how cool the opponent's sword might be. Ezra manages to make it onto Thrawn’s ship with the help of Sabine. When you think she is going to join him, she instead goes off to aid her friend and master, in her fight. The two go after Thrawn, but are unsuccessful in following him, and remain on Peridia, with their new snail family.

The finale ends, similarly to Return Of The Jedi, with a force ghost of a very important Jedi. Hayden Christensen, which could unfortunately be his very last appearance in Star Wars, is back once more as Anakin Skywalker. Including him one last time, was a great way to wrap up this part of Ahsoka’s story, as he was an essential part of her journey to reach her full potential.

The three of them were unsuccessful at stopping Thrawn. He managed to hold them off long enough for his plan to work and had one of the coolest exits. In classic Thrawn fashion, he managed to give a speech before going off into hyperspace. It will be interesting to see what comes next in Thrawn’s story, as it’s rumored that Dave Filoni’s Star Wars movie is going to be based on the Legends novel, Heir to the Empire. Whatever the outcome may be, the New Republic is definitely in trouble.

Ezra managed to steal a ship from the Chimaera and disguise himself as a stormtrooper. He goes back into New Republic space, where he reunites with Hera and Chopper. While it was great to see the two of them reunited, I wish we got to see the hug they shared.

Baylan Skoll

Ray Stevenson left this world too soon. He was as amazing as Baylan Skoll, and, sadly, we won’t get to see him in the role again, especially after his lackluster conclusion. We see him standing on an ancient statue, that looks a lot like The Father from the Mortis arc in The Clone Wars. He also has a new cape and appears to be separated from his Padawan. Shin Hati goes to the natives of the planet and shows off her lightsaber. For two characters who were essential throughout the show, it's a shame that this is how their stories ended, at least for now.

Ahsoka was truly the perfect Star Wars show. Star Wars proves that anything goes, as the finale introduced us to zombie stormtroopers and flaming magick swords. It gave us long-awaited returns and even some surprises. We got various cameos, some that have been years in the making, and live-action Clone Wars moments. Everything we saw was essential to Ahsoka’s story, and this show gave us insight into a much older Ahsoka. It is unknown what comes next in Ahsoka’s story, but hopefully, this won’t be the last time we see her.
