The last several years have seen the release of several games set in iconic IP of the 1980s which, while still often getting installments in the modern day, have begun returning to the original films or source of inspiration for those modern offerings. Terminator, for example, has seen some recent video games expanding beyond the traditional domain of films. RoboCop was on a similar track, with RoboCop: Rogue City from 2023 setting them up for a positive start, especially with a DLC on the way for later in 2025. But according to outlet UploadVR, the newest RoboCop game, RoboCop: Streets of Anarchy, might never see the light of day for one strange reason: it wasn’t officially licensed.

Two weeks ago, Streets of Anarchy appeared on the website of the game’s developer, Coffee Moth Games. But in the time since, the game’s original listing as a VR title for the Quest 3 and PC VR was scaled back to be only for arcades, before being completely removed as Amazon MGM Studios became involved. Coffee Moth claims that they were contacted by a third-party outsourcing company who had apparently contracted the rights for the IP from Amazon MGM for the creation of the game.

Amazon, however, directly stated to UploadVR that there was no agreement between itself and Coffee Moth, suggesting one heck of a mix-up, or the possibility that Coffee Moth was hoodwinked. Regardless of who is at fault, it is a shame to lose out on what would have surely been a fascinating VR experience.
