The original Lando Calrissian was played by Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back in 1980.  Calrissian received an update in the standalone movie, Solo, that debuted in 2018 when Donald Glover introduced fans to the younger version of the charismatic character. News broke in December 2020 that a limited series was possibly in the cards for Lando. At the time, creator Justin Simien was connected to the project. When Simien left, the Glover brothers filled his spot. They began developing Lando’s “solo” opportunity as a movie instead.

Stephen Glover had an appearance recently on the “Pablo Finds Out” podcast where he explained to the host that the rumored Disney+ series is “not even a show…the idea right now is to do a movie. Right now, because of the strike, it’s kind of like telephone, all of the information.” Lucasfilm has confirmed the news since the airing of the podcast. In April, Donald Glover discussed the project during an interview with GQ Magazine without spilling any real tea. He admitted that “[They’re] talking about it. That’s as much as I can say without Kathleen Kennedy hunting me down.”

Glover described Lando as “charm incarnate,” He went on to elaborate as he referred to the character as a “maverick,” he then went on to say, “which I don’t think there’s a lot of anymore. It’s hard to be the smooth talker nowadays. Where’s the line? That’s also where the danger is. How close can you get without tripping over it?” Glover went on to confirm that he “would love to play Lando again. It’s a fun time, being him. It just has to be the right way to do it. Time is precious. The past couple of years, this pandemic shit, it really had people experience time… People realize their time is valuable. You only get so much. I’m not interested in doing anything that’s going to be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I’d much rather spend time with people that I enjoy. It just has to be the right thing, and I think it could be. Lando is definitely somebody I like to hang out with.”
