'Moana 2' Has Strong Showing At Previews, Foretells Strong Theater Weekend
Disney’s Moana 2 has set new records before its full release weekend. According to Deadline, in the preview showings on Tuesday, November 26, the film pulled in $13.8 million. The Moana sequel now has the highest-grossing preview run for a Walt Disney Animation film; not only that, but it has the highest revenue for a film preview running on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, blowing its predecessor Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018) out of the water by about $10 million. It just missed beating out Incredibles 2 (2018) for an animated film’s overall highest-grossing previews, falling short by about $4.7 million and firmly securing second place.
The film also had a successful Thanksgiving Day run; the film grossed about $28 million domestically, dominating films such as Gladiator II and the film adaptation of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Going into the weekend, as of November 29, the film has grossed $85.5 million domestically and $109.6 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo), lining up to blow the original five-day weekend revenue estimates of $105–115 million out of the water.
