‘The Legend Of Vox Machina’ Season 2 Episodes 10-12 Review

Vox Machina

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE LEGEND OF VOX MACHINA SEASON 2

The final three episodes of Season 2 of The Legend of Vox Machina are now streaming on Amazon Prime, and Vox Machina is in for a ride. The season finale is absolutely perfect and will keep fans wanting more. The stakes have never been higher. Not only are they trying to defeat the dragons of the Chroma Conclave, but they are also dealing with their own internal battles.

To get the next vestige, Grog has to fight his uncle, Kevdak, who he challenged at the end of the last episode. The fight does not go well for Grog, but once he realizes that his strength comes from his friends, he regains his power (and muscles). However, it seems like Kevdak is still stronger, and Grog is at death’s door once again. Then, the rest of Vox Machina shows up and fights the clan. Grog finally defeats his uncle and gets the vestige.

RELATED:

After spending the night recuperating and celebrating their victory, Vox Machina decides to try to trap the dragon Umbrasyl. Things seem to be going their way until Umbrasyl breaks out of his binds and Vox Machina discovers the dragon’s power of invisibility. Despite Scanlan’s unconventional strategy, the Umbrasyl escapes. Vox Machina follows him to his lair. Despite the odds, they rally and manage to defeat Umbrasyl (and are rewarded with the dragon’s hoard).

All seems well. Vox Machina returns to Whitestone to deliver the good news. However, the fight is not over. One of the dragons, Raishan, in the guise of their friend, warns that their vestiges will not be enough to defeat the remaining dragons of Chroma Conclave and its leader Thordak.

One of the biggest themes this season is overcoming fears. That theme is featured in these final three episodes. Grog overcomes his fear of his uncle and regains his strength once he realizes that his friends make him strong. Vax finally embraces his role as the Raven Queen’s champion. Scanlan has to face one of his biggest fears when he meets his long-lost daughter, who tells him that he will never be good enough since he runs away from everything. Scanlan almost runs away during the final battle with Umbrasyl. However, he springs into action at the last moment and defeats the dragon. In one of the best moments in the entire season, we finally see Scanlan as more than a playboy. He does truly care about his friends.

The animation has been absolutely gorgeous this entire season. Two moments that really stand out are the fight scenes between Vox Machina and the goliaths where everything is fluid and colorful, flowing with the battle. The other is when Vax confronts the Raven Queen and we see the golden threads coming out of the Raven Queen connecting to Vax and his fates. The accompanying soundtrack enhances all the animations, especially Scanlan’s various songs.

Vax, Vex, and Percy face off against a beast.

This season sees Vox Machina grow as a group and as an individual. Each member finds their strengths, whether in themselves or each other. While it will take a lot to defeat the Chroma Conclave, at least one dragon is down. Vox Machina has the vestiges, and more importantly, each other. At the end of the day, that is where their strength lies.

Both seasons of The Legend of Vox Machina are now streaming on Amazon Prime.
