Major Adult Cast Members For 'Harry Potter' Reboot On Max Confirmed

The Harry Potter series has fallen victim to the reboot treatment, but this time, it’s a TV show for HBO Max. There has been controversy surrounding the series and its author, but the show news does not seem to be slowing down. More casting announcements were recently revealed and feature some big-name stars.

First up is John Lithgow, who will play Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts. Lithgow is a six-time Emmy winner, a two-time Tony winner, and a BAFTA and Oscar nominee.

Janet McTeer, a Tony, Olivier, Golden Globe winner and an Oscar and Emmy nominee, will be playing the role of the Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts and Head of the Gryffindor House, Professor McGonagall.

Paapa Essiedu will be joining the cast as Potions Professor Severus Snape. Essiedu was nominated for both a BAFTA and an Emmy for his role in the comedy-drama I May Destroy You. 

BIFA-nominated actor Nick Frost will be joining the cast as the beloved Hogwarts groundskeeper, Rubeus Hagrid. 

The Defense Against The Dark Arts Professor, Quirinus Quirrell, will be played by theater performer Luke Thallon during Harry's first year. 

Five-time BAFTA winner Paul Whitehouse, who is best known for the UK sketch series The Fast Show, will be taking on the mantle of Hogwarts caretaker Argus Filch. 

Production is slated to begin in the Summer of 2025.
