From the slopes of Mount Olympus and the depths of Hades for the Greeks, and across Yggdrasil’s connection of the nine realms until Ragnarok, Kratos has explored much of popular mythology of the ancient world in God of War. But his adventure doesn’t seem over yet.
According to DanielRPK, a known rumor leaker and insider, Sony is hiring actors with MENA (Middle-East/North Africa) ethnicity for a new AAA game.
This is unconfirmed, and only a rumor at this point, but there have been clues and talk about Egypt in the past, which could suggest that this is the direction of the next game. Back when Sony Santa Monica was developing the revival of the franchise that ultimately took it to Norse mythology, they considered Egyptian first.

There’s also a slew of theories revolving around Tyr’s tapestries in God of War that people claim give hints as to the next game in the franchise. Some suggest that an image of Tyr giving a gift to some Greek people in a tapestry, which sits above three other cultural depictions, hints to other places that Kratos may go. The image shows the pyramids and palm trees on the left, in the middle is a traditional Shinto torii gate between what looks to be pagoda-like structures next to people clad in Japanese garb, and on the right looks to be Mesoamerican pyramids with what look to be Aztec-like people on either side.
The God of War franchise is immensely popular, so it would make sense if they chose to continue it. Where the franchise goes is anyone’s guess. Egypt is safe because its mythology is so popular. Japanese and Mesoamerican mythology don’t get as much multimedia coverage, but it presents an opportunity to showcase the rich cultures outside the Mediterranean and European realms.
