Tyler Perry Has Formed A Creative Partnership With Netflix
Tyler Perry has signed an eight-picture deal with streaming giant, Netflix. The films will reportedly be released over several years and Perry will write, direct, and produce the set. He is best known for Madea the gun-toting black grandma with an attitude that has been parodied everywhere from Saturday Night Live to the Scary Movie franchise. Perry’s signature style pairs laughs with serious issues such as drug addiction and divorce, in hit series such as House of Payne. Tyler Perry also loves a crossover/spin-off. Many of his shows are set in the same universe, and the actors make frequent cameos. It’s possible that any of his old characters could end up in the new material.
The Netflix deal isn’t exactly out of the blue. The last Madea movie, A Madea Homecoming spent four weeks in Netflix's top ten when it was released in 2021. And Perry has already worked with the company on a bunch of projects, including the new legal drama Mea Culpa starring Kelly Rowland.
Tyler Perry is now one of the hottest properties around, after also promising four films to competitor Amazon last year. His biopic Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story is about to drop on November 17th on their platform. We’re going to be seeing a lot of him!
