Kate Herron, 'Loki' And 'Sex Education' Director To Co-Write A New 'Doctor Who' Episode
Kate Herron will write an episode for the upcoming season of Doctor Who together with her long-time collaborator Briony Redman. Herron, who is a writer, director, and producer, started her career in 2010 with the short film Frank and had her breakthrough in 2017 when she directed five episodes of The Idris Takeover, working with Idris Elba. In the same year, she was named one of “Forbes 30 under 30”. In 2019, she directed four episodes of Sex Education for Netflix before directing and exec-producing the whole first season of Marvel's Loki.
Briony Radman is a comedian, actor, and writer who starred in the Welsh crime-comedy Pont Brec and the award-winning short film Forget-Me-Not. She has worked with Herron on the comic The Storkening, as well as on the sci-fi horror film Miss Universe and the highly acclaimed horror short film Smear.

When working on Doctor Who, Herron will be reunited with Ncuti Gatwa, who has been part of the cast of Sex Education. The 31-year-old from Rewanda will become the 15th incarnation of the Doctor in the new season, after three specials to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the series, in which David Tennant will return as the 14th Doctor. Gatwa is the first black actor to portray the famous Timelord and the first one who was not born in the United Kingdom.
Gatwa will be joined by big acting names like Miriam Margolyes, Neil Patrick Harris, Indira Varma, and Yasmin Finney. As with the previous seasons, Russel T. Davis will act as the series showrunner, and he has nothing but praise for his new writing team:
“This is when I absolutely love my job. Working with the stellar talents of Kate and Briony makes my whole world bigger and brighter, and a lot more fun.”
The new season of Doctor Who will premiere in 2024.
