'The Mandalorian & Grogu' To Be Shot Entirely In California
California’s Film and TV Tax Credit Program has landed another big movie. The Mandalorian and Grogu will be filmed exclusively in Cali, partly due to the massive cash boost provided by the state’s scheme. The production will receive up to 20% tax credits and a 10% credit uplift on visual effects and local labor hire. This equates to $21,755,000 in tax credits and even more on Californian wages which will go straight back into the local economy. This is the biggest payout in the scheme’s history, and it’s expected to benefit locals working in the film industry. The production is looking to hire 500 crew members, 54 cast members, and 3500 background players for 92 filming days, excluding reshoots.
Governor Gavin Newsom says on his website: ‘From Earth to Arvala-7 to Mandalore, there is no place to film like California. Our iconic entertainment industry has brought us classics across generations, and through this program we’re making sure the state continues producing, while generating billions of dollars for our communities, creating thousands of good-paying jobs, and training our future workforce.’
This is the first Star Wars movie to be located entirely in the Golden State, although another Disney property, Captain Marvel filmed the majority of its scenes there and contributed an estimated $137 million to the economy as a result. Let’s hope The Mandalorian and Grogu is as successful.
