The Last of Us is the new series, based on the popular video game of the same name. The story follows Joel and Ellie, two survivors of the cordyceps outbreak, trying to survive their trek across post-outbreak America. The show releases on Sundays, on both HBO and HBO Max, which usually isn’t an issue, but for Americans the Super Bowl is on Sunday, February 12th, causing the two to coincide. Fans won’t have to wait a whole week for episode 5, as it has been moved up to Friday, February 10th, and will release before the Super Bowl on Sunday. The Last of Us Season 1 finale coincides with the Oscars in March. There is no word on whether that episode will be moved yet, but we’ll probably hear closer to that date.

The show is growing in popularity each week, and was the second-highest viewership for a series debut, right behind House of the Dragon. Episode 3 had the highest viewer count of the show so far, coming in at 6.4 million viewers. According to the trailer for Episode 5, it will explore the story of Henry and Sam, which fans who played the game are familiar with.

The future of the show is looking bright, as it was just renewed for season 2, but has not yet started production. The showrunners still have a lot of pull from including the Left Behind DLC, which was an add-on to the original game and explored Ellie’s relationship with her friend and love interest Riley, in the days before she met Joel.

The Last of Us Episode 5 premieres Friday, February 10th, at 9 pm est, on HBO and HBO Max.
