Viola Davis Wins Grammy And Becomes The 18th Person To Win An EGOT
Viola Davis is officially an EGOT. The actress won her first Grammy on Sunday night. It was for Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording for her memoir Finding Me, which she recorded the reading for. She becomes only the eighteenth person to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony thus the “EGOT”. She and the seventeen others did so through completely competitive categories, while five others did so through non-competitive, special, or honorary awards.
Davis’s Emmy was for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series as Annalise Keating in How to Get Away With Murder’s first season in 2015. Her Academy Award was won in 2017 for Best Supporting Actress as Rose Maxson in Fences, a role she won the Tony for Best Actress in a Play, specifically its 2010 revival. It was her second Tony Award following Best Featured Actress in a Play in 2002 for playing Tonya in King Hedley II.
The actress is set to continue her role as Amanda Waller she began in The Suicide Squad into the new DC Universe of films and television series. This includes a spinoff series for her character, simply called Waller, considered more directly spun off from Peacemaker.
