Steven Spielberg To Receive Eva Monley Award In August
Steven Spielberg is being honored by the Location Manager’s Guild International (LMGI) at its 10th annual award ceremony, which will take place on August 26th, 2023. The guild is dedicated to upholding ethical standards among location managers, scouts, and other career location professionals in the movie industry.
Spielberg is this year’s recipient of The Eva Monley Award, a plaudit given to those in the business who make an extraordinary contribution to filmmaking through their use of real-world locations. The award is named after Eva Monley, who gave us some of cinema’s most iconic scenery, including Lawrence of Arabia’s famous sand dunes.

Steven Spielberg uses landscape as a crucial part of his storytelling, whether it’s the Al Khazneh temple that features in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade or the beaches in Saving Private Ryan. But movie locations are more than epic landscapes; intimate settings have been just as central to Spielberg’s movies, and he has chosen them just as carefully. One example is the building in Batteries Not Included.
LMGI Committee Co-chair John Rakich made the following comment about this year’s esteemed winner:
“Steven Spielberg is a giant in our industry. His work has touched, inspired, and entertained millions of moviegoers and filmmakers from around the world. His films are timeless and his influence on the motion picture industry is immeasurable. We are so proud to be able to honor him as this year’s Eva Monley Award recipient.”
