The end of a legendary directing career is near. Quentin Tarantino, one of the most influential directors in cinematic history, has been clear to fans that his upcoming film, The Movie Critic, will be his last. It won't be the entire end, though, as Tarantino has stated that he will not retire from writing books, plays, television series, and more. Christopher Nolan, another prolific director in Hollywood, who has just taken the country by storm with the recent release of Oppenheimer, has explained Tarantino's decision.

Nolan expressed that he understands his decision in an era where cinema is constantly evolving and becoming more complex, that if Tarantino doesn't feel his work will live up to his heyday, then Tarantino's take is that it is better if it doesn't exist. Nolan continued, "It is a very purist point of view. It's the point of view of a cinephile who prizes film history."

Although the Oppenheimer director may understand his point of view, he doesn't entirely agree with it. He expressed that he may not trust his sense of judgment on his work well enough to say whether or not it should exist. Nolan also explained that he enjoys works that are incomplete or may not have achieved what they set out to, finding a certain level of cinematic quality in a particular scene, performance, or structural thing.

Whether you agree or not, it is fair to say Quentin Tarantino has uniquely affected cinema, forever changing the landscape and inspiring millions. Ten movies are enough for him to hang it up, but not enough to walk away from his creative side forever. Fans will certainly look forward to anything Tarantino will write in the future.
