The beloved Skyrim grandma, Shirley Curry, age 88, is retiring from making game videos. Curry endeared fans nine years ago with her penchant for calling her followers her grandkids. The Youtuber rose to fame with a million subscribers and captured the attention of fans, and Skyrim developer Bethesda Curry was scanned to use her likeness as NPC in the upcoming Elder Scrolls 6. Even the modding community decided to add her to Skyrim as a companion named Shirley.

Explaining her retirement, Curry said, “I’m just doing it for fun, and it isn’t fun anymore. I’m tired of it. I’m bored with it. I’m bored to death with it. So I am making the decision now, totally, finally. I am not going to be making any more game videos and uploading them.” Curry plans to do some quilting, reading, and maybe even write a book with the extra time. Although she is done with game videos, she’s not leaving YouTube. She plans to vlog her reading, quilting, and writing. Fans are hoping she’ll return to game videos with the release of Elder Scrolls 6, especially since Curry herself can be encountered in the game. Bethesda confirmed early game builds in March of 2024, but no release date has been announced yet.
