'Rogue One' Director, Gareth Edwards, To Direct 'Jurassic World'
Jurassic World 4 has finally settled on a new director to pursue. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gareth Edwards and Universal Studios are in talks for Edwards to take on the director’s cap. The original director that the studio was talking with, David Leitch, stepped down from the role as the involvement of him and his wife, Kelly McCormick, in the actual creative decisions of the movie would be slim. Edwards has a hefty resume walking into this film. He is the director behind Godzilla (2014), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), and The Creator (2023). Edwards is also well-known for his VFX skills; a classic example would be the 2010 film Monsters, which he also wrote and directed.
This film will be the seventh film in the overall franchise, which began in 1993. Steven Spielberg will return to the film as the executive producer through Amblin Entertainment. David Koepp will also be returning to work on the film’s script. He has previously worked on the 1993 film and its sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), as well as several pieces of Indiana Jones media among other projects.
Jurassic World 4 is aiming for a July 2, 2025 release, adding a fair bit of pressure to keep production moving. An official name has yet to be announced for the film, but as the script comes closer to completion, a name will likely follow suit. The story will be an attempt at a franchise reboot, but specific plot details have yet to be revealed.
