New 'Star Wars' Book, 'The Rise And Fall Of The Galactic Empire', Will Focus On Palpatine

While current Star Wars lore has gone back in time with the stories taking place in the High Republic era and also exploring events after Return of the Jedi, shows like Andor and The Bad Batch show that the saga is still very much entrenched in the timeframe of the Empire and the Rebel Alliance.
A new hardcover reference book from DK Publishing will explore the roughly two and a half decades between the end of the Clone Wars and the Battle of Jakku, but this time not from the point of the Empire.

The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire is written by Dr. Chris Kempshall, a historian and co-author of Battles that Changed the Galaxy (2021) and is inspired by William L. Shirer's real-world history book The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.
“So much of how we think about Star Wars is based around what we see of the rebels. But that leaves a big empty space for the Empire,” Kempshall says about his inspiration to write the book. “What was their experience of ruling the galaxy and fighting the war? What would people think about the Empire once it was gone?."
Of course, the book will focus heavily on Sheev Palpatine and his machinations to come and to hold his power, but it will also cover Imperial propaganda, tactical warfare, crime and punishment, and economic strategies to show how the Empire was able to get its iron grip around large portions of a and how it could collapse so quickly after the Battle of Endor.

Besides these out-of-universe descriptions, the book will also include an in-universe study of Palpatine's regime. For this, Kempshall will use the pseudonym Beaumont Kin, a historian in the years of the First Order. Kin appeared as one of the Resistance fighters in The Rise of Skywalker, where he was played by Dominic Monaghan.
“That’s what this book has been for me and Beaumont Kin," adds Kempshall about his alter-ego in the Star Wars galaxy. "The chance to fully and deeply explore the realities of the Empire and to show all of you what it looks like up close. This is my first solo Star Wars book but it’s one I’ve wanted to write for most of my life.”
The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire will hit bookstores on July 9.
