Writer Teases Shawn Levy's 'Star Wars' Movie Will Be With Us Sooner Than Expected

It’s been some time since a Star Wars movie has released, with The Rise of Skywalker debuting in 2019, nearly 6 years ago. To be fair, it is a little weird to be saying this as a longtime fan, given the nearly-20-year gap between the original trilogy and the prequels, and then another 15 years between those and the sequels. With the Disney ownership now, however, Star Wars content is released more frequently.
The film drought will end next year with the release of The Mandalorian & Grogu. Apparently, though, we may be getting another film not long after that.

Speculation is high after some comments by Jonathan Tropper (writer for the Shawn Levy-helmed Star Wars movie) in a recent interview with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley. In the interview, Tropper said that he was excited about the project, and that “I hope it's on the way sooner than you think.”
This, in addition to the comments by Kathleen Kennedy, who revealed recently that she’s producing The Mandalorian & Grogu and the Shawn Levy movie “after that,” leads some outlets to believe that the Shawn Levy movie could begin production soon and be right on the heels of The Mandalorian & Grogu.
This is, of course, all speculation. There’s also been talk about Ryan Gosling starring in a Star Wars film, and that that film is the one being directed by Shawn Levy.
Things within the Star Wars camp seem tumultuous lately, at least from the way reporting is covering things. Shows canceled despite high viewership, release schedules shifted around, and changing administrative roles don’t give off the semblance of stability or confidence that fans would hope for. With all that, it’s no surprise there are tighter lips at Lucasfilm these days.
