More Information About Marvel's 'Thunderbolts' Has Been Released
From character recast choices to that mysterious asterisk, Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* has drawn a fair few eyes in the news, but plot specificities have been kept quiet. Marvel movies are well-known for their secrecy during auditions and while production is in progress. According to Variety, this standard was upheld to an intense degree during the production of Thunderbolts*. Lewis Pullman, the actor for Bob in the film, spoke about the audition process and what it was like on set on the podcast Just for Variety.
Pullman explained his start in the process and how he saw the MCU, “It always felt like kind of an untouchable realm, kind of a cool kid’s table that I wasn’t sure if I’d ever get an invite to, or at least an invite to even try and be a part of…And so it was a hell of an experience going out there and test screening.” The strictness surrounding the process was air-tight, as the actor continued, “It felt like I was going into the FBI or something. It was all very locked and sealed.”

On-set was just as intense, if not more so. Pullman stated, “They’re like, ‘You’re lucky to hold onto a set of sides for longer than an hour.’ There were shredders everywhere. But Jake Schreier, the director, sat down with me, and he told me the story, but I couldn’t read any script or anything.” This didn’t scare Pullman off, rather the contrary as he expressed, “It was cool. It was kind of old-fashioned in that sense. It was like, ‘And now by the campfire, I will tell you the story of Thunderbolts.’”
Thunderbolts* is scheduled to hit theaters on May 2, 2025. While plot specificities are being kept under wraps, we know that a team of misfits, including Yelena Belova and Bucky Barnes, “are recruited to go on missions for the government.” It will be the fifteenth installment of Phase Five of the MCU. In the meantime, a variety of Marvel Studios projects that may give you context for the featured characters are available to stream on Disney+, including Hawkeye (2021), Black Widow (2021), and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021).
