Hayden Christensen helped to bring Anakin Skywalker to life during the prequel era Star Wars films and returned to versions of the character in both Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi as well as Ahsoka.  The latter series had a special live-action iteration of the character.  The first time Christensen fully stepped into the role of Clone Wars-era Anakin was during Ahsoka.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, that portrayal wasn’t the first time the actor considered the character as he was in that period.

Christensen’s background knowledge of Clone Wars-era Anakin sparked during the production of Episode III, having a lore conversation with George Lucas.  The actor explained the discussion, “George telling me about the Clone Wars when we were getting ready to do Revenge of the Sith and just filling me in on all the backstory — how Anakin fought in the Clone Wars and he was this great warrior and a decorated general.”  He continued, describing his reaction, “I remember thinking, ‘Wow, that sounds really cool, would be nice to see some of that.'”  The actor wrapped his comments up by acknowledging the work done on Ahsoka, stating, “To get our feet wet with that in live action was just a real privilege.”

Christensen discussed the approach they took when filming Ahsoka.  When asked about his knowledge surrounding the World Between Worlds, he explained that he knew about the concept and stated:

“...I was just instantly really excited because it just creatively opened us up a lot in terms of what we could do with the character. Anakin, he goes through a lot in his life and in the prequels he’s a very emotional character, but in this, this is a post-life version of the character, so he’s aware of all of those things but he’s not emotionally beholden to those things either, so we could present just a slightly different slant on the character.”

Ahsoka follows the titular character as she teams up with several Star Wars Rebels characters to stop Grand Admiral Thrawn from returning to the galaxy.  Christensen is featured in episodes four and five of the series.  It can be streamed exclusively on Disney+.
