Thundercats are loose, and the SilverHawks will be joining them in a new Thunderverse. This will be the first time the two series will crossover despite both being produced by Rankin/Bass. However, this will soon change, as the 80s cartoon will soon be getting a comic from Dynamite Entertainment that will take place in the same universe as their Thundercats comic.

The original cartoon ran from September 8th to December 5th, 1986, and focused on a special team of cyborg cops organized by the Federal Interplanetary Force under the command of Commander Stargazer. This comic series will open with Stargazer forming the team, it consists of Captain Jonathan Quick (aka Quicksilver), ace pilot Bluegrass, twin soldiers Steelheart and Steelwill, the illusionist Hotwing, and inventor Copper Kid. The team is formed specifically to hunt down inmates freed during a massive jailbreak on the prison planet Limbo. One of the prisoners is Mon*Star, the main antagonist of the original cartoon.

Silverhawks is a pet project of writer Ed Brisson, who said he had been looking forward to pursuing the project ever since the initial Thundercats comic.

“When Dynamite launched ThunderCats I immediately began to pester Declan Shalvey (the writer of ThunderCats) about the possibility of a SilverHawks book,” Brisson said. “I am very excited that this book is happening and that I’m privileged enough to be involved. I couldn’t ask for a better collaborator than (artist) George Kambadais. So, strap in, because I’m about to pour all the love I have for the SilverHawks into this baby. I’m going to make you all love it too!”

The comic is set to fly onto shelves in January of next year.
