Marvel made history when it brought the B-list superhero Iron Man to the big screen in 2008. Since then, the budgets, characters, and costumes have grown. After more than a decade of showcasing iconic characters in cinema and on streaming services, I’ve compiled a list of the ten best superhero outfits in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

10. Hawkeye

Hawkeye’s costume is more practical than fashionable, but there’s a pop of red that makes his outfit stand out. The sleeveless top leaves Clint Baront with plenty of range to fire his bow and switch between types of arrows. In his most recent appearance, set during Christmas time, Hawkeye added sleeves and chose a purple motif directly inspired by his Marvel comics counterpart.

Peter Quill rocks a red leather jacket as he travels through the cosmos. This 80s-style outfit stands out among the various planets that Star-Lord visits. His mask protects his face and features a pair of glowing red eyes to intimidate his enemies.

8. Moon Knight

While other heroes made their costumes stand out with pops of color, Moon Knight’s is bold for another reason. His all-white outfit is inspired by desert travelers and vaguely resembles a mummy. An alternate version of the suit is designed as a sharp, formal suit. The crescent moon on the chest signifies his allegiance to Khonsu.

7. Doctor Strange

While Doctor Strange has received flack for his outlandish costume, it’s still one of the most iconic outfits of the MCU. The striking blue tunic is reminiscent of the Middle Ages. As more than just a fashion accessory, his red Cloak of Levitation is a sentient companion that allows him to fly.

6. Thor

Thor’s outfit consists of an armor breastplate and a red cape. His famous hammer, Mjölner, completes the god’s iconic look. Unlike most other characters in the MCU, Thor has maintained this look for most of his appearances, with variety provided by a haircut and an eye patch at the end of Thor: Ragnarok

5. Spider-Man

From his home-made suit in Homecoming to the Iron Spider suit introduced in Infinity War, Peter Parker has showcased a wide variety of outfits. But one in particular produced an excited reaction from the entire theater. At the end of No Way Home, Spider-Man is on his own and makes another homemade suit. This suit lifted the red and blue design straight from the comics and brought it to life on the big screen. In the theater, the final shot of Peter swinging in his new outfit filled the room with applause.

4. Loki

Loki’s final outfit in the MCU is simple but effective. The green cloak around him, paired with his usual horned helmet, fits him as he settles into his role as the god of stories. In the past, Loki has worn a green suit to blend in on Earth and as his official TVA uniform. The final outfit change symbolizes his redemption.

3. Scarlet Witch

Wanda has been in the MCU since the first Avengers film, yet her Scarlet Witch outfit wasn’t seen until the end of WandaVision. Her outfit is inspired by the comics, but MCU Wanda opts for a red leather dress paired with dark pants instead of the comic’s leotard. The outfit is both stylish and practical, as the leather can provide armor, and the pants make movement easier. A crown on her forehead reveals just how powerful she is.

2. Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel’s outfit is a pleasing mix of red, blue, and gold, with a gold star representing her work in the cosmos. Although her outfit is the standard Kree Starforce uniform, Carol Danvers succeeded in making it her own. The gold glow that comes with her powers accentuates the color scheme.

1. Captain America

In the MCU, Captain America’s outfit is more than a costume; it’s a symbol. That’s why even after Steve Rogers retired, the government sought to make Captain America an official position. The red, white, and blue uniform features a star and stripes inspired by the American flag. His vibranium shield shows a single star surrounded by red and blue stripes. This patriotic uniform reminds citizens of the MCU of hope and the existence of heroes, which is a fitting tribute for the first Avenger.

The MCU has a wide range of heroes and an even wider range of outfits. But each iconic outfit reminds the world that help is on the way. All these costumes stand as a symbol of the strength and spirit of the heroes and bring the comic book pages to life in live action.
