Master Sol

Episode 5, “Night”, of The Acolyte could be summed up with a line from Hamilton: who lives, who dies, who tells your story? Many Jedi died tonight, and some of them were quite surprising. So much happened in such a short time, but this episode easily became the best of the series, and dare I say one of the best Star Wars episodes of all time.

The Jedi fight with their hands. Their opponent is quite powerful and can make quick work of the “red-shirt” Jedi. As brutal as it is, he even kills two with one lightsaber, which was pretty cool to see. Yord takes Osha away from the action and they head back to the ship. Mae and Jecki fight it out a bit, and Jecki even gets cuffs on Mae to arrest her. Sol and the Sith-like being duke it out, with Sol trying to figure out who he is. Eventually, he vanishes and turns up in front of Jecki, and even though she is a Padawan, she can hold her own against him. Yord and Osha hear the commotion and return to Sol and Jecki.  Mae tried her best to escape but wasn’t able to until Yord and Osha came to her and Sol’s rescue. The Sith, which was officially said in the episode, does something that will have you in shock. We also finally got a face reveal, and let’s just say that many fans' predictions were right. It’s also one of the coolest reveals we’ve ever seen. We see Sol and the Sith fight once again but without lightsabers. It would be too many spoilers to give it away, but let’s summarize it by saying that The Parent Trap scenario happens at the end.

One of my favorite parts of any Star Wars content is the lightsaber battles. There have been many of them that could be considered the best. The ones we saw in this episode, were incredible, and we saw lots of them. All of the Jedi we saw fought, were extremely fluid in their actions, and were able to hold themselves well against this powerful enemy. The choreography was great, clean, and fluid. The battles were some of the most exciting ones we’ve seen so far. The fistfight between Sol and the Sith was the best fight of the episode and showed just how powerful Sol is. He was able to hold his own against the Sith the best, and that was proven time and time again in this episode. I hope he makes it to the end, because he is such a great character, even if he is hiding something.

In true High Republic fashion, the characters you love end up dying. It has happened in the books, so it’s no surprise it happened here. I think this should be considered one of the best Star Wars episodes of all time because it has everything that makes Star Wars so great. It will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time, and you really won’t expect everything that happens in this episode either.

Rating: 10/10
