'The Acolyte' Episode 6, "Teach/Corrupt" Spoiler-Free Review

This week’s episode of The Acolyte, “Teach/Corrupt”, didn’t have as much action as last week, but that’s okay. It deals with the aftermath of last week's massacre by Qimir, and they even go as far as to make us see the bodies of Jecki and Yord, which was cruel in my opinion. It focused more on the plot, and continued the story forward, to lead us into the penultimate episode next week.

The episode flips back and forth between sisters, who are now on opposite sides from where they were. Osha is with Qimir on a planet that looks suspiciously like Ahch-To, where Luke Skywalker hid himself during The Last Jedi. Rightfully, she is weary of Qimir and doesn’t trust him. She assures him that she is not like Mae, and won’t be easily corrupted. That changes a bit in her, as the episode goes on. Qimir is trying to corrupt her to the Dark Side, and it seems that it’s working. Qimir is mysterious but is starting to give glimpses of what happened to him. It will be interesting to finally learn his full story. He also confirms what many thought, that his helmet is made out of Cortosis. Meanwhile, Sol and Mae have hightailed it out of there, but are now stuck orbiting the planet. Sol is trying to keep it together as much as he can, considering what he just went through. Mae on the other hand is trying her best to be Osha, but Bazil isn’t fooled and does his best to try and expose her. It doesn’t work, and she goes back to Sol. The ship starts up again, and they are about to leave when Sol finally comes to a realization involving Mae. He says he will finally tell her everything, which leads me to believe that next week's episode will be another flashback.

We also got to see more of Vernestra Rwoh, a character from the High Republic books. She is concerned about what happened to Sol and takes a team to Khofar. They find the scene of the crime and try to piece together what is happening. Her padawan thinks that Sol had something to do with the massacre, but she isn’t so sure. She suspects that something isn’t right and that there’s more to what they’re seeing. We also get to see the lightsaber whip in action for the first time, and it’s awesome.

All of the actors are incredible, but Amandla Stenberg deserves special recognition. She is amazing as both Mae and Osha and can switch into each character extremely well. Even though the sisters share very similar qualities, she makes their differences shine, especially when it comes to how they present themselves. She was an excellent choice for the role, and I am glad to see her be a part of the Star Wars universe.

We can all agree that lightsaber battles are exciting, and some of the best parts of Star Wars. However, that doesn’t mean everything else is bad. This episode was plot-heavy, and that’s okay, especially after last week's episode. This episode just made me more curious as to what Sol has to say, and what comes next for these sisters. I wish it was more than 8 episodes because I don’t know how everything will be wrapped up with two more to go.

Rating: 8.5/10
