Zachary Levi Thinks Hollywood Puts Out Too Much Garbage
At Fan Expo Chicago, Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Zachary Levi talked about the quality of movies coming out of Hollywood, urging the fans not to watch the “garbage” that Hollywood has been putting out.
Reportedly to much applause, Levi stated, “I personally feel like the amount of content that comes out of Hollywood that is garbage – they don’t care enough to actually make it great for you guys. They don’t.” Further explaining his thoughts, he said how the trailers are the hook, making a film look cool, as “they know that once you’ve already bought the ticket and you’re in the seat, they’ve got your money.”

If a film had been hiding its quality with its trailers, the reaction likely isn’t a positive one. Levi continued by saying “the only way for us to change any of it is to not go to the garbage. We have to actively not choose the garbage. It’ll help. It’ll help a lot.” The quality or worth of a film is a subjective thing, one which Levi has previously made comments on.
After calling the critical view of Fury of the Gods “very oddly and perplexingly low” and “insanely unkind,” last month, his additional thoughts from that time show the subjective nature of media. “Listen, I’ve been a part of things and as much as I wish that they were good, I know that they’re okay, I know they missed a lot. I’m not saying Shazam! Fury of the Gods is some perfect Orson Welles masterpiece, but it’s a darn good movie.”
