Writer's Guild Of America Lays Out Strike Rules For Possible Strike Next Week
As the end of April rapidly approaches, May is a huge month for Hollywood. However, instead of the release of a large industry-changing blockbuster movie, this month is huge due to a possible strike from members of the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA). Scheduled to start on the second of the month if no deal is met, this would be the first time the guild has struck since 2008.
If the strike takes place, all WGA members will have to follow a set of rules. Some of these rules include: Immediately stopping writing for all struck companies, do not deliver or submit any literary material to a struck company do not sign or deliver documents related to writing assignments or the sale or option of literary material to a struck company, and do not negotiate with struck companies for writing services, and notify your representatives to cease negotiations on your behalf until the strike concludes. Any guild member who violates these rules would be open to discipline, which could include fines and either suspension or expulsion from the WGA.
The WGA Negotiating Committee will continue to strike a deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) until the current contract ends, on 11:59 pm May 1.
