'What If...?' Writer Matthew Chauncey On Board For 'X-Men '97' Season 3
Marvel is bringing back a writer for the third season of X-Men ‘97. Matthew Chauncey was a key writer on the What If…? series. His other Marvel credits include Ms. Marvel and Thor: Love And Thunder. Chauncey will replace Beau DeMayo who departed the project under undisclosed circumstances after finishing work on the first and second seasons. Marvel’s head of streaming Brad Winderbaum praised DeMayo’s work calling them “excellent scripts that really the rest of the team were able to draw inspiration from [to] build this amazing show that’s on screen.”
According to Disney, X-Men ‘97 was the most-watched full-length animated series since What If…? so Chauncey has some big shoes to fill. His experience with the experimental What If…? series will help with his new writing role. X-Men ‘97 focuses on the mutants learning to deal with a world that fears and hates them and is set in the 1990’s. The voice cast features Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, AJ LoCascio as Gambit, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, Matthew Waterson as Magneto, JP Karliak as Morph, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, and Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler.
