The highly anticipated sequel film Gladiator II has finally gotten a full official trailer!  Ridley Scott’s historical drama Gladiator (2000) follows Maximus, an enslaved man who becomes a gladiator, seeking vengeance for his family’s murder; the sequel picks up over a decade later. This film has been discussed since 2001 and was announced in 2018, development proceeding from there. From plot teasers to character introductions, this trailer teases the film while providing a good amount of detail.

Lucilla’s son, Lucius, was sent away as a child and is now an adult. His home is attacked by Roman soldiers led by Pedro Pascal’s General Marcus Acacius. Enslaved and seeking vengeance, Lucius becomes a gladiator under the powerbroker Macrinus and takes inspiration from Maximus’ legacy; a nail-biting fight between Lucius and Acacius is shown at the end, cutting off just before the conclusion. The brothers, Caracalla and Geta, are the current co-emperors of Rome, historically stepping into fuller leadership after the death of their father, and in this iteration are twins. They present as unconcerned for the well-being of their citizens, leaning into more unhinged personalities that encourage violence and creating their own flavour of conflict.
