What Are The Big Movies To Look Forward To In 2025?
2024 had a fair few box office hits, from Inside Out 2 to Deadpool and Wolverine to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and more; 2025 is lined up to have an array of exciting releases. The box office estimates for this year are a slight improvement compared to last year’s revenue; according to Gower Street Analytics, the projected global revenue is about $33 billion, up at least 8% from 2024. Here are some of the films to look forward to in 2025, both in theaters and direct-to-streaming.
The superhero genre is thriving this year. Captain America: Brave New World is right around the corner with a February 14 release. Thunderbolts* follows this several months later on May 2. James Gunn’s Superman is aiming for a July 11 release. The Fantastic Four: First Steps rounds the genre out on July 25.

The wider pop culture is thriving as well. A fantasy film, The Legend of Ochi, is scheduled for February 27. Disney’s live-action adaptation of Snow White is aiming to release on March 21. Minecraft will hit theaters on April 4. Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning and the live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch are scheduled for release on May 23. A John Wick spin-off, Ballerina, aims to drop on June 6. The first live-action adaptation of a Dreamworks piece, How to Train Your Dragon, is scheduled to drop on June 13. Jurassic World Rebirth kicks off July on the second. The next installment to the Tron franchise, Ares, is set for October 10.
This year has quite the lineup for the horror genre, and it isn’t all condensed to the spooky season. Wolf Man hits theaters on January 17, following a family on a farm attacked by an animal. Cursed toys are a token of the genre, and Stephen King’s The Monkey comes to theaters on February 21. A crime film following a masked serial killer, Doctor Plague, is looking at an April 26 release. The eleventh installment to the Saw franchise is expected on September 26. A sequel to The Black Phone is scheduled for October 17.
There are a few projects to be on the lookout for as well. An untitled Ben 10 film is reportedly in the works and may receive updates in the coming months. A third installment to the Sherlock Holmes film series starring Robert Downey Jr. is currently in the pre-production stage. Netflix is releasing a sequel to Happy Gilmore; the release window is reportedly the summer of this year. Finally, Guillermo del Toro is working on an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein; the film is currently in post-production and looking at a 2025 release.
Plenty is coming, plenty is expected, and plenty is being worked on this year. The box office projection is still lower than pre-COVID numbers, but it’s slowly getting better.
