'The Phantom Menace' Star Jake Lloyd Gives Encouraging Mental Health Update
Jake Lloyd, a former child actor best known for his work on The Phantom Menace as a young Anakin Skywalker, has given fans a mental health update. After staying at a mental health facility for eighteen months, Lloyd informed journalist Clayton Sandell that he was feeling “pretty good” after going to a new facility, adding, “I can now accept taking on continued treatment and therapy and my meds. Everyone's been very supportive.” Jake Lloyd has previously been diagnosed with schizophrenia and anosognosia, as his mother once told Scripps News. His stay at the facilities happened after a serious episode in March 2023.
Jake Lloyd had been active as a child actor for a few years before landing the role of a young Anakin Skywalker, his most prominent role being in Jingle All the Way, where he played opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger. Bullying from overzealous fans was cited as responsible for his retirement from acting. However, he hasn’t fallen out of love with Star Wars, as he also admitted to playing video games such as The Old Republic and The Force Unleashed. Jake Lloyd’s life has had its ups and downs, but he hopes to put the worst behind him and move towards a better future.
