Upcoming DC Film 'The Flash' Expected To Earn Big On Opening Weekend
Superhero films will continue to prop up Hollywood as the upcoming DC Studios film The Flash is set to open between $115 million and $140 million on its first weekend. Box Office Pro shared the projection recently in a tweet, with the film set to open on June 16.
The monetary expectation for the film is not the only high bar the movie needs to fly over, although this current projection has it being the top domestic opening weekend film for DC Studios since 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which opened with $166 million at the domestic box office. Since James Gunn and Peter Safran became co-CEOs of DC Studios, Gunn has explained the film “resets the entire DC universe.”

Gunn’s first film developing the new world of DC characters was Shazam: Fury of the Gods which opened with negative reviews and a dismal $30 million opening weekend. The films with the best opening weekend are Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice at $166 million, Suicide Squad at $133.7 million, and Man of Steel at $116.6 million.
Reviews from the first screenings of The Flash are positive, some hailing the anticipation of the film as similar to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight film. Fandango’s Erik Davis said the film is “among the best superhero films ever made,” leaving him “in tears.” And Brandon David of ComicBook.com said, “Damn, The Flash is good! It’s super inventive, both visually and in concept. The dynamic of two Barry Allen’s is crazy well done. Emotions hit me intensely hard, solid surprise, and it got me wanting to watch again and really eager to see how they follow it. Well done.”
