The Rings of Power Season 2 has seemingly taken a dip in ratings.

Reporting from Deadline quotes viewing data from the analytics company Samba TV that indicates a notable drop. The exact figures stated are that around 902,000 US homes tuned in for the three-episode premiere of the show within four days of its debut, which is around half of the number that tuned in to view Season 1’s first episode in the first three days back in 2022.

This significant drop may have to do with the mixed reception from fans of Tolkien’s world and viewers of Season 1, and their lack of interest in Season 2. However, it is important to note that these numbers are not official figures from Amazon, and the truth might very well be different. Despite the difficulties mentioned above, Amazon reported that Season 1 was a wild success, claiming viewership of more than 100 million people worldwide and a collective 32 billion minutes streamed, with the show’s premiere achieving 25 million global viewers which was the biggest premiere on Prime Video at that point.

This supposed drop in recorded viewership may also be due to consumers choosing to wait to watch the show, a growing trend as the price of streamers only increases with time, and the weekly release model remains common instead of dropping an entire season at once. But, even if the drop is accurate, the numbers Amazon reported for Season 1 would be just as impressive halved, which is the trend Samba TV suggests may be happening. We will have to wait and see what sorts of numbers Amazon reports after the end of Season 2 for The Rings of Power.
