The Most Complete Build Of Cancelled 'Star Wars Battlefront III' Found
Since its cancellation in November 2008, fans have wished that Free Radical’s Star Wars Battlefront III had been completed. Wanting the next generation of one of the best Star Wars games of the 2000s. Recently, the team at Free Radical Archive has uncovered an almost complete Wii version build of Battlefront III, showing much of what fans could have been playing.
Footage of the build, dated a week before the cancellation of Star Wars Battlefront III, has been released by ‘iamashaymin’. It starts with the Showcase trailer the team of Free Radical Archive put together, mirroring the one Free Radical released for the game in 2008. It shows off many of the canceled game's locations, characters, and features, including the main feature Battlefront III promised to bring players: seamless ground-to-space combat.
The history of Free Radical’s Battlefront III and the studio itself, is full of contradictory statements, including that the game was 99% complete before the plug was pulled. This build shows the game as feature complete but still with work to be done. Graphical errors, missing textures, and many bugs are present in the footage being released. While not 99% complete, it was very close to a release. Alongside the Wii version, Star Wars Battlefront III was going to be released on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, with handheld versions for the PSP and DS.
