The John Williams Music Documentary Will Get A Limited Theatrical Release And Will Be On Disney+

Jon Williams

The legend that is John Williams will be given the spotlight in a new documentary. Music by John Williams will cover the life of the composer, from his early days as a jazz pianist through the many films he has composed for up to the most recent Star Wars and Indiana Jones films. The documentary will feature plenty of interviews with people that Williams has worked with throughout his career. People such as George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Chris Columbus, Lawrence Kasdan, Ron Howard, and many more.

Kathleen Kennedy, also part of those interviewed, said as part of the announcement, “It’s no exaggeration to say that John Williams is the greatest film composer of all time. His music has transcended cinema and become a part of our global culture, touching the hearts of billions, both young and old. John’s music has done as much to keep classical music alive as it has to shape the world of the film.”

Laurent Bouzereau, director and producer of the documentary, says that William’s music had a large impact on his childhood. “His scores made me fall in love with music, and made me realise at a very young age, the power that a score had on cinematic storytelling. This was an important story to tell, not only because it is about one of the greatest composers of all time, but because of the message it carries about the survival of orchestral music, and musicians.”

Set to premiere at the American Film Institute Fest on October 23, followed by a limited theatrical run, Music By John Williams arrives on Disney+ November 1. Serving on its list of producers alongside Bouzereau are Sara Bernstein, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Meredith Kaulfers, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, Steven Spielberg, and Justin Wilkes. Markus Keith and Michael Rosenberg serve as executive producers.
