Details Emerge About What Was Stolen In the Insomniac Hack
The next chapter in the recent hack of Insomniac has now happened. After not receiving their ransom of 50 bitcoins (about $2 million) within the week, the hacking group Rhysida has officially released 1.3 million files totaling 1.67 terabytes of data. The files include videos, images, and other aspects of the upcoming game Marvel’s Wolverine, information on many staff members, and a contract between Marvel and Sony for future contracts. It has since been confirmed that the attack impacted none of Sony’s other branches.
A spokesperson for Rhysida recently spoke out. “Yes, we knew who we were attacking. We knew that developers making games like this would be an easy target. We were able to get the domain administrator within 20–25 minutes of hacking the network. Sony has launched an investigation, but it would be better in the backyard.”
Released data includes the following (warning, potential spoilers for future releases): Marvel’s Venom to be released in 2025, a release date for Marvel’s Wolverine in 2026, Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 in 2028, a new title in the Ratchet and Clank series in 2029, along with financial details for the X-Men license.
Rhysida stated that money was the reason for the attack although with Insomniac Games not paying the ransom, publicity and notoriety is all they seem to have gained from this.
