Tony Gilroy is well known for his writing on Andor, and according to him, it was another Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, that led to its existence. From the man himself, Gilroy has stated, “The success of The Mandalorian gave us the platform to jump off. Their success is what would fuel the whole thing. I mean, no Baby Yoda, no Andor. Seriously. Don’t think that we don’t know that.” Though different in tone, these two series are not “opposed” to each other. This symbiotic relationship can be applied to other Star Wars shows, as The Mandalorian started them all.
Andor is gearing up for Season 2, which will lead directly into Rogue One. Directors have already been announced, including Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz, and Alonso Ruizpalacios. Season 2’s structure will mirror Season 1’s, though other story details at the moment are currently unknown. Tony Gilroy is returning to write for the series, having previously co-written Rogue One. Though he had no role in it, The Mandalorian brought him back into the writing room for Star Wars, and we are grateful for it. We will be returning to the Unknown Regions of the internet until we can give you more news.
