It’s no great controversy to say that the live-action remakes of popular Disney films are having problems. It seems like each one has diminishing box office and critical returns, with the latest upcoming offering, a remake of Snow White, not generating a bunch of excitement. That brings us to the Lilo and Stitch remake. The film is slated for a June 2024 release date, with the recent strike certainly delaying the film, and we know that the film will skip the theaters and hit Disney+ right away.

So far there has been no official word from Disney about why this one is going straight to their streaming service. All we know about the film at this point is the cast, general story, and when we can expect to see it. The film will see a few actors in the original film and TV series in new roles for the live-action remake, though Chris Sanders, who was the original voice for Stitch, will be reprising his role.

Given the recent buzz around the other live action remakes, it will be interesting to see how faithful this one is to the original, and how well it will be received by critics and audiences. And who knows? Maybe the film will see a brief theatrical release at some point in the future.
