Since the inception of the lightsaber in mainstream culture from the debut film Star Wars: A New Hope, Christmas lists often began with a request for the weapon of the Jedi. And today, Star Wars announced Stellan Gios’ “Excalibur” at the New York Comic-Con during a panel on The High Republic.

Only 5,000 pieces will be produced and arrive at Shop Disney and Disney Parks later this year. The saber will include a glowing light along with sound effects.

For those unaware of Gios’ extensive history within Star Wars canon, Stellan Gios is a Jedi Master within the High Republic. This line of storytelling comes almost 2,000 years before the event of Star Wars- Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. Lucasfilm debuted this narrative in 2021 to showcase how the Star Wars galaxy was developed before the time of the Skywalker family, which effectively changed the galaxy entirely after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

This era of storytelling within Star Wars is yet to see a live-action production until next year’s The Acolyte, which will focus in detail on the High Republic era. The show will debut on Disney+ and will star Amanda Stenberg, a former Jedi apprentice recruited by her former Master, to solve a mystery within the galaxy. Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, and Carrie-Anne Moss are attached to the project. At this time, there isn’t a premiere date for the show.
