Last Thursday, New York Comic Con-goers got exciting news at the DC “Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse” Panel:  There will be six new titles premiering in 2024 in the “Elseworld” comic series. These fan-favorite comics explore far-flung reaches of the DC universe, going through space and time so readers can see their beloved characters re-imagined in different scenarios.

As DC Executive Editor Ben Abernathy stated, “Out-of-continuity stories have always been a pillar of DC publishing, granting creators the ability to explore all the wild corners of the DC Universe”. These will include Batman, the Green Lantern, and Barbara Gordon … as Queen of the Vampires?  Let’s take a look below at what we can anticipate in the upcoming year.

Gotham By Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age

This is a continuation of a series started in 1989. It sets Batman in the Victorian Era, gathering heroes into what would become the Justice League to fight Jack the Ripper.  Readers will also learn more about the history between Earth and Krypton. The creative team behind this is Andy Diggle and  Leandro Fernandez, and there will be twelve issues in this series.

Dark Knights Of Steel: Allwinter

This six-part series finds us in the frozen winter landscape, reminiscent of the Norse mythology that it is based upon.  Here we have the assassin Deathstroke who kills for hire.  He is suddenly thrust into an altogether different role that could bring to an end the curse that is consuming his land - if he chooses to accept it. This series was created by Jay Kristoff and Tirso Cons, and it is their DC debut.

Green Lantern: Dark

Again set in a dark fantasy world, humanity is searching for the one hero that can bring light to their bleak existence: The Green Lantern. She has been missing for years, but there are still some who hold out hope for her return. This is a seven-part series by Tate Brombal and Werther Dell’Edera.

Batman: Nightfire

Protector of Gotham City, Bruce Wayne tries to time travel to the past to fix the future. As it turns out, he has some dark secrets in his past. As the title suggests, in this iteration, Batman would rather let Gotham City burn than give up his secrets. This six-part series is brought to us by the dynamic twin duo, Clay and Seth Mann.
