The Star Trek panel at SDCC featured news from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’  Akiva Goldsman (showrunner and creator), Alex Kurtzman (creator), Henry Alonso Myers (showrunner), Ethan Peck (who plays Spock), and Rebecca Romijn (who plays Una Chin-Riley). Strange New Worlds serves as a prologue to the events in Star Trek: The Original Series, and pens a stellar love letter to classic Star Trek

There hasn’t been news of a release date yet for the next season of Strange New Worlds, but it will be sometime in 2025, with production for season four already slated to commence in spring 2025. What we do know is that there will be more romance coming up because, as Goldsman put it, “When you’re trapped in a small, or not so small, spaceship with a lot of very attractive people, sh*t happens.” Dr. Roger Korby will become a recurring character and one of Christine Chapel’s love interests in the new season of Strange New Worlds. Dr. Korby will be played by Cillian O’Sullivan in this iteration (he was played by Michael Strong in The Original Series). Continuing from his introduction in the season two cliffhanger, Scotty (Martin Quinn) will become a regular in this season.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds released an extended first-look preview for season three during SDCC as well. The first half of the clip shows Christine using a serum to transform herself, Captain Christopher Pike, Nyota Uhura, and La'an Noonien-Singh for a mission. Pelia takes the serum as well, but it doesn’t take effect, likely because she’s a Lanthanite. She comments that it’s a shame, because LSD doesn’t work on her either, and both experiences look like so much fun. After the mission though, it doesn’t seem like the four crew members can turn back into their human selves. When asked about filming the episode, Peck commented that “it turned out beautifully and they were hilarious [as Vulcans].”

One of the most elaborate episodes of the last season of Strange New Worlds was “Subspace Rhapsody,” a musical episode that managed to fit into the Star Trek puzzle perfectly and be an outstanding episode. Goldsman unexpectedly commented that there is a possibility of a stage production, stating “We are in the very early stages of exploring whether or not we can bring a version of that to the stage.” Romijn immediately reacted that she couldn’t believe he mentioned that. So, take that for what you will.

It might not be long before we have the entire crew from Captain Kirk’s Enterprise living it out in Strange New Worlds. We cannot wait to see what adventures are next when new episodes air in 2025.
