Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) Members of the long-running and iconic series, Sesame Street, reached a tentative agreement that will hopefully prevent a previously authorized strike. The strike, which was recently authorized, was set to begin this upcoming Tuesday, April 24th, at the studio’s New York offices. However, due to the agreement, the strike now appears to have been averted.

The agreement, won by the WGA’s 35 members working on Sesame Street, includes paid parental leave benefits, Artificial Intelligence protections, “historic” jurisdiction and minimum rates for new animation and media programs produced by Sesame, and substantial improvements to new media residuals. The agreement is set for a ratification vote within the coming days.

The WGA negotiating committee issued a statement praising the outcome of the negotiations, which had been ongoing since February of this year:

“We are so proud to work for an organization that values its writers, and we believe this new contract will positively impact writers throughout the children’s media landscape. ‘S’ truly is for Solidarity. We are glad to have a contract in place that allows Sesame to do what it does best — lead.”
