'Picard' Season 3 Is The Sendoff 'The Next Generation' Crew Always Deserved
Star Trek: Picard’s showrunner, Terry Matalas, doesn’t believe that the Star Trek: The Next Generation crew ever got the sendoff they deserved. He said, “So that was the goal from the beginning, to send 'em off in one final adventure that was both thrilling and deeply personal.” Everything about season 3 points in that direction. The audience will see Dr. Crusher, William Riker, Counselor Troi, Worf, and Geordi LaForge. They won’t just have cameos either. Each character has a story arc that will cover the ten episodes of this season. The only characters returning from the prior seasons of Picard are Seven of Nine and Raffi.
The third season is being billed as Picard’s last, however executive producer, Alex Kurtzman, is open to the possibility of more seasons to come. “When we started the series, Patrick and we all talked about really wanting it to just be three years, feeling like we could really tell a complete story with the season you're now seeing as our endpoint,” Kurtzman said, “That being said, anything is possible. If a show blows the doors off the place, as we're certainly hoping it will, and we're very, very proud of season 3, who knows?” Matalas agrees, saying that he has a “thousand” ideas for future seasons.
Picard season 3 will air on Paramount+ starting on February 16th.
