Jonathan Majors Wants Robert Downey Jr. To Return As Iron Man In The MCU

Jonathan Majors is set to play the next major MCU bad guy, taking on the role of Kang the Conqueror. This character has a set worldview and will bring some interesting drama to the table, especially with the character interactions. Majors is excited about these possibilities; in an interview with LifeHacker AU, the actor expressed a desire for his character and a founding Avenger to meet.

Kang the Conqueror, from what we know of this iteration, not only holds curiosity and intelligence, but also an intense desire to be in control. While Quantumania introduces the character, Majors believes that Avengers 5 “has the potential to grow the mythology of Kang, to grow the curiosity of Kang that much more.” Not only is the actor a fan of RDJ and what he’s done for the MCU, but their characters are similar in their passion for their causes.

Summing up his thoughts on the matter, Majors states:

“I would love to be across from him on screen to see how our philosophies, acting-wise and character-wise, just personally, match up. You know, I find him to be such a fascinating artist, which is why Iron Man is so fascinating. His portrayal of Iron Man is so fascinating and he represents a very clear world view and energy of the Avengers. And I think Kang represents a different era.”

Tony Stark sacrificed himself to stop Thanos, but that isn’t a given across the multiverse. The possibilities frankly become endless in this new age of the MCU. Until the movie gets closer and more details are released, we know it’s possible to some degree.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is a Phase 6 movie with a 2025 release date, so there’s plenty of time before things fall into place. Major’s debut as Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in theaters on February 17th, 2023!
