'Pennyworth' Has Been Cancelled After Three Seasons On HBO Max
Alfred has been dismissed. “Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler,” which finished its third season back in November, has been laid to rest. The prequel series, starring Jack Bannon that details the events that turned Batman’s butler into the man he had become, was not renewed for a fourth season. The first two seasons aired on Epix (now MGM+), with the third, which takes place five years later, being on HBO Max. The recent plot was based around post-WWII England where a fascist coup started a civil war. During the series, Alfred had a close working relationship with Thomas Wayne (played by Ben Aldridge), the father of Batman.
An HBO Max spokesperson addressed the issue. "While HBO Max is not moving forward with another season of Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman's Butler, we are very thankful to creator Bruno Heller and executive producers Matthew Patnick, Danny Cannon, and John Stephens, along with Warner Bros. Television, for their brilliant, unique, gripping depiction of the origin of Alfred Pennyworth, one of the most iconic characters in the Batman world. An incredible blend of action, drama, and humor, for three seasons, Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler has taken fans on a mind-bending ride into Alfred’s eccentric world and the beginnings of cutting-edge superheroes and supervillains.”
Titans and Doom Patrol have both also been canceled, with those shows having reached their fourth seasons. Creature Commandoes, Waller, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and Booster Gold were all unveiled to audiences.
