Pedro Pascal Went As His Oscar-Nominated Sister's Date For The Oscars
It is no surprise to see Pedro Pascal at the 2023 Oscars. After all, he has been generating buzz lately. Even though he is one of the award presenters, his main reason for attending the ceremony is to support his sister, Javiera Balmaceda, the head of local originals for Latin America at Amazon Studios. She was in attendance for the studio’s Argentina, 1985, which was nominated for Best International Feature Film.
Posing for photos on the red carpet, Pedro certainly looked proud of his sister’s accomplishments. He has always been supportive of his family, standing by his younger sister Lux Pascal who had publicly come out as a transgender woman early in 2021.

One may wonder why the two have different last names. Pascal took the last name of his mother Verónica Pascal as his stage name in her honor. He previously spoke to People in 2020 about her influence on him:
“She was always incredibly supportive, never a stage mom. I always felt like she knew something that I didn’t. None of [my success] would be real if it weren’t for her.”
The award for Best International Feature Film went to Netflix’s All Quiet on the Western Front, which also won Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, and Best Production Design.
Pedro Pascal is currently starring as Din Djarin in The Mandalorian, as well as Joel Miller in The Last of Us. New episodes of Season 3 of The Mandalorian stream on Disney+ every Wednesday, and the entire first season of The Last of Us is now available on HBO Max.
