A live-action series adaption of the 1999 sci-fi film Galaxy Quest is coming to Paramount+. The production is an effort between Paramount TV Studios and Paramount+. The project is in the early development stages, and a search is ongoing for a writer to work with Mark Johnson, an executive producer for the film.

Fans are excited to see the series come to fruition after an attempt by Amazon Studios in 2015 to reunite the cult classic cast for a limited series. Unfortunately, Allan Rickman’s death stopped the project from moving forward. Sam Rockwell, who was a part of the original cast, said after Rickman’s passing in 2016, “We were ready to sign up, and [then] Alan Rickman passed away, and Tim Allen wasn’t available - he [had Last Man Standing] – and everybody’s schedule was all weird. It was going to shoot, like, right now. And how do you fill that void of Alan Rickman? That’s a hard void to fill.” Alan Rickman passed away in 2016 from cancer.

Tim Allen wrote a piece for The Hollywood Reporter after Rickman’s passing, saying, “Galaxy Quest is really close to being resurrected in a very creative way. It’s closer than I can tell you, but I can’t say more than that.”

At the time of this writing, the Galaxy Quest series is untitled.
