Idris Elba Could Land A Role In 'Masters Of The Universe'
A Masters of the Universe live-action film is in the works by Escape Artists and Mattel Films, with Amazon MGM Studios funding the project. The role of He-Man had already been found, and now it seems Man-at-Arms is soon to be cast. It has been found that Idris Elba is in final negotiations to portray the mentor to He-Man.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Nicholas Galitzine would portray He-Man, with two other casting choices made between Galitzine and Elba. Camila Mendes is to portray Teela, while Alison Brie will portray Evil-Lyn. Travis Knight will direct the film, with Chris Butler writing the screenplay from the initial drafts penned by David Callaham, Aaron Nee, and Adam Nee.
There has been quite a push by Mattel to bring Masters of the Universe back onto screens. An animated series named Masters of the Universe: Revolution was released on Netflix in early 2024, following other animated series that Netflix has produced. The 2026 film at Amazon was originally meant to be another Netflix project, but development halted owing to budgetary concerns.
Masters of the Universe marks the latest project that Elba is signed on for. He will portray Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in December, then join John Cena and Priyanka Chopra Jonas for action-comedy Heads of State. Masters of the Universe has been given a date of June 5, 2026.
