New Medieval Life Sim RPG 'Mirthwood' Coming From Bad Ridge Games
One of the most popular, and modded, games available is Stardew Valley. It’s also inspired numerous other like-minded games, itself inspired by games like Harvest Moon. It’s time to add another to the mix. Yesterday, Bad Ridge Games launched a trailer for their upcoming game ‘Mirthwood’.
It comes off as a sort of combination of Stardew Valley and games like Diablo or Elder Scrolls. The trailer presents a far more combat-oriented game than Stardew, with shield and strike mechanics, but it is also described as a choice-heavy game. You can spend your time exploring and fighting, or you can settle down and improve your homestead, maybe even find a spouse. Social interaction seems to be inspired by The Sims as the press release describes a “Sims-like relationship system.” It’s a promising sort of description that could inspire multiple playthroughs and cater to many different playstyles.

Graphically it’s at a sort of in-between. It’s a departure from the 32-bit style (though there is a 64-bit option) of Stardew, the character seems to run almost like a 2D side-scroller, reminiscent of the movement in Pentiment or even Fallout Shelter. The environment and landscape, and the player models, look almost a cross between 2.5 and 3D. 2.75D? It’s beautiful to be sure, and looks smooth with crisp animation.
The game is set to launch sometime in early 2024 on PC, but it can be wishlisted now on Steam.
