There is a little over one month to go before the premier of the fifth, and likely final, Indiana Jones movie. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny hits theaters on June 30.

A face new to the franchise will be Mads Mikkelsen, who plays the apparent antagonist of the film. Recently, Mikkelsen, who has appeared in numerous films from Casino Royale to Rogue One, sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about his role in the new film as the man named Voller.

Voller is a former Nazi scientist recruited through Operation Paperclip. If you are unfamiliar with Operation Paperclip, it was a U.S. intelligence operation to bring German scientists, including Nazis, to the United States to work on programs like NASA. Not one of the country’s particularly bright spots in history, but Voller is a character based on that scenario.

In the trailer, he utters the line that “Hitler made mistakes” and we know the Dial of Destiny, which is the film’s namesake, has some ability to right past wrongs, so it seems that Voller’s goal is to correct Hitler’s mistakes. What he considers those mistakes to be is left unsaid by Mikkelsen, who doesn’t want to give too much away.

“I think the passion for what he does and passion for what he's looking for, without giving too much away, and the passion for him knowing that this can make the world a better place — all that I can identify with,” Mikkelsen said to Entertainment Weekly about Voller’s character and drive and how he managed to connect with the character. He explains further that when the audience is first introduced to Voller, in 1940s Germany, “he's a man who is very, very passionate about his job, the science of what he's doing, and less so with the ideology of what he's doing. But if they can go hand in hand, that will be a good day for him.”

He worked closely with Director Mangold to place Voller in the right place and society. They workshopped his accent to create a sort of uniqueness to him that doesn’t abandon his German roots but also doesn’t keep him cliché. Ultimately, Mikkelsen explains about Voller, is he’s a man like Indy, passionate and driven for their singular goals who feel the pressure of time.
